Jan Tobe was named head volleyball coach at Wilmington College June 28, 2007.
Tobe takes over the Wilmington program after spending the past 16 years as varsity volleyball coach at Jamestown Greeneview High School, where she led the Rams to three Ohio Heritage Conference championships, nine sectional finals, six district finals and a regional final in 1996.
“We are very happy to have Jan join our athletics family,” Wilmington College Director of Athletics Terry Rupert said. “Her coaching record speaks for itself. She understands the many ingredients needed to create a winning program and she has great recruiting ties in southwest Ohio.”
Tobe — whose Greeneview teams posted a combined 68-8 record over the past four seasons — said she is looking forward to helping the Wilmington volleyball program reach new levels of success.
“We want to win. We want to turn the program around,” Tobe said. “I’ve been watching this program for several years, and they’re there. They just need to get over the hump. I’m hoping that I can help that happen. I think my connections in southwest Ohio, Junior Olympics and the volleyball community will make a big difference at Wilmington.”
Wilmington College volleyball will be a fast-moving game this fall. Tobe said Quaker fans will see a team that plays an upbeat style.
“I don’t like the slow game. I like a very fast game,” Tobe said. “I like to run a lot out of the middle. We want to develop a program that kids are going to want to play for.”
Tobe and her husband Lewis live in Jamestown. They have nine children. She is a medical assistant for Dr. Penny Hogan of Xenia.
