Wilmington College dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision to Ohio Northern in Ohio Athletic Conference women’s tennis action on the Lady Quakers’ courts Wednesday afternoon.

Wilmington is now 5-2 in the OAC, 6-7 overall. Ohio Northern improves to 5-3 in the conference, 9-9 for the season.

“I thought it was a very good effort on everyone’s part,” Wilmington head coach Jessie Loeffelholz said. “We competed on every point and managed to come from behind to win a couple matches. Ohio Northern is a very good team.”

Wilmington dropped two of three doubles matches. Jessica Veite (Loveland) and Michelle Reiber (Jamestown/Greeneview) rallied to post an 8-6 win over Jenna Bittner and Jenny Provost at No. 3 doubles.

“That was a good win,” Loeffelholz said. “They stayed with the game plan and worked really hard to come back and get the win.”

In singles action, Stephanie Amrhein (Brookville, Ind./Franklin County) raised her record to 11-2 with a win over Mami Ito at the No. 3 position.

At the No. 5 position, Reiber breezed to a straight-set win over Bittner.

Holly Grady (Beavercreek/Xenia Christian) overcame a second-set deficit to beat Provost at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 7-5. Grady is now 4-0 on the singles court.

“Holly was down 5-2 and came back to win. That took a lot of heart and determination on her part,” Loeffelholz said.
