Women's basketball picked sixth by OAC coaches

Senior Emily Zimmerman and the Lady Quakers kick off their season November 16th as the Hampton Inn/Damon's Tip-Off Tournament in Fred Raizk Arena at Hermann Court.
AUSTINTOWN, OH – The Wilmington College women’s basketball team was picked to finish sixth in the Ohio Athletic Conference preseason poll, the league announced today (November 6, 2012).
“I really like where we were picked,” said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. “I know that is not where we are going to finish.”
The Lady Quakers finished the 2011-12 season sixth and was ousted in the quarterfinals of the OAC tournament by Otterbein.
Wilmington returns all five starters from a season ago, along with four other players that made at least two starts. Junior Makenzie Wippel (Orient, OH/Westfall) led the team with 9.6 points and 5.6 rebounds. Senior Bria Eslick (Cleveland Heights, OH/Lutheran East) had a team-high 6.0 rebounds with 9.2 points, while senior Brianna Peters (Alexandria, KY/Campbell County) brings 9.0 points and 5.9 rebounds to the table.
Defending champion Mount Union received seven of 10 first-place votes for 79 points, followed by Ohio Northern (73, two first-place votes), Baldwin-Wallace (62, one first-place vote), Capital (58), Otterbein (51), Wilmington (41), John Carroll (32), Muskingum (21), Heidelberg (17) and Marietta (15).
WC kicks off the season 6 p.m. November 16 against Bethany as the Lady Quakers are hosting the Hampton Inn/Damon’s Tip-Off Tournament.
