Lady Quakers drop third of season

Rausch scores game-high 21 points in loss

(WC Press Release) Springfield, Ohio (December 30, 2003) -- The Wilmington College Lady Quakers dropped their third game of the 2003-04 season to Wittenberg University 66-58 on Tuesday evening.

Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) led all scorers with 21 points while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) scored 13 while pulling down 17 rebounds.

The Lady Quakers scored first in the game and jumped out to a 4-0 lead five minutes into the game, as both teams struggled to find the bottom of the net in the early goings of the contest. Wittenberg then erupted with a 9-0 run to take a 9-4 lead three minutes later. The two teams found themselves tied at 15 apiece with 5:53 to play in the half before the Green and White went on another run, this one 9-0, giving the visitors a nine-point lead before the Tigers opened an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to one, which stood going into the break.

In the second half, the Lady Quakers expanded on their one-point halftime lead, and took a 10-point, 39-29 lead with 15:54 to play, before the Tigers opened another 8-0 run to cut the lead to two, and eventually opened a three-point lead, culminating the 15-2 run for Wittenberg. The Lady Quakers had their last lead of the game with 2:58 remaining before the hosts ended the game on a 12-2 run, en route to their eight-point, 66-58 victory.

Rausch led all scorers with 21 points while Zerilla scored 13 and Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) chipped in seven. Zerilla had a season-high 17 rebounds for the Green and White while Rausch added five for the Green and White. Hood dished out four assists as Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) dished out three.

Wittenberg was led by Carrie Jones and Amber Bishop, who each scored 14 points off of the bench. Haley Warden scored 12, highlighted by her 10-of-10 performance from the free throw line. Warden also pulled down a dozen rebounds while she and Bishop each dished out three assists to lead the squad.

With the loss the Lady Quakers fall to 6-3 overall as Wittenberg improves to 5-5.

The next game for the Green and White is on Saturday, January 3 when the team travels to Cleveland to face off against Case Western Reserve with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.`
