Lady Quakers defeat Wittenberg 73-66

Wilmington, OH (December 30, 2002) ­ The Lady Quakers of Wilmington College overcame a two-point halftime deficit to defeat the Tigers of Wittenberg College 73-66 in a non-conference game. Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) led the way for the Green and White with 18 points.

The Lady Quakers (7-2) started the game out strong, taking a six point lead three minutes into the first half before the Tigers fought back, taking a one point lead with 11:43 left in the period. The Lady Quakers quickly took the lead again, going on an 18-4 run to re-capture the lead, this time by 13 points at 30-17 with 5:40 to play in the half. The visitors from Springfield then responded with a 14-0 run of their own to take their second lead of the half, as the Tigers went into the locker room with a two point lead at 34-32.

In the second half the Wittenberg (5-4) lead grew to as many as four with 17:50 left in the game before the Lady Quakers went on a 14-4 run to take a six point advantage. Five points is as close as the Tigers would come in the last five minutes of the game as the Lady Quakers held onto their seventh victory of the season.

Rausch led all scorers with 18 points while Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East Clinton) scored 11, Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) scored 10 and Tiffani Glaser (Kettering/Fairmont) chipped in with a career-high 10 points. Zerilla pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds while Woodruff dished out six assists.

The Tigers were led by Katie Rolf who scored 11 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. Haley Warden chipped in with 10 points while Emilie Schmidt and Kari Kitchen each scored nine.

The next game for the Green and White is set for Saturday, January 4, when the team plays host to conference foe John Carroll University with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
