Lady Quakers use big second half in six-point win

Rausch hits for season-high 33 points in win

(WC Press Release) University Heights, OH (December 20, 2003) -- The Wilmington College Lady Quakers trailed 31-41 at halftime, but out-scored John Carroll 44-28 in the second en route to a six-point, 75-69 victory.

Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) scored a season-high 33 points while Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) chipped in 16 in the victory. The Lady Quakers fell behind 10-4 three minutes into the game, and took their first lead at 14-12 before the hosts opened a 12-2 run to take an eight point lead. The lead grew to as many as 11 as the Blue Streaks went into halftime with a 10-point, 41-31 lead.

JCU scored first out of the break, increasing the lead to 12, as the Lady Quaker deficit grew to as many as 14 with 15:02 left in the game before the Green and White rattled off a 17-0 run over the next six minutes, taking a three-point lead that they would not give up for the rest of the game. The Lady Quakers forced seven turnovers in their 17-0 run. The Green and White increased their lead to as many as nine, and cruised the rest of the way for the six-point win.

Rausch led all scorers with her 33 points while Kincer scored 16 and Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) added eight to the cause. Rausch pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double while Kincer and Zerilla grabbed eight and seven rebounds respectively. Kincer led the team with three assisrts while Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) swiped two steals.

JCU was led by Tracey Prosinski who scored 16 points while Shayla Bell and Meghan Banks each scored 12. Prosinski pulled down a team-best eight rebounds, as the Lady Quakers out-rebounded their opponent 44-42, the first time in three games that the Lady Quakers have done so.

With the win the team improves to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play while JCU falls to 5-4 overall and 3-2 in conference action.

The next game for the Lady Quakers is on December 30 when the team travels north to Springfield, Ohio to face off against Wittenberg University with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
