Lady Quakers
survive first half scare against ONU
Ada, OH (December
18, 2002) The Wilmington College Lady Quaker basketball team overacame
a one-point halftime deficit to defeat the Lady Polar Bears of Ohio
Northern 81-73 in OAC action. The Lady Quakers were led by Tara
Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) who had a game high 30 points and
12 rebounds.
The Lady Quakers
(5-2, 2-1 OAC) started out fast, out scoring the hosts 13-4 over
the first four minutes of the game. The Lady Polar Bears (2-6, 0-3
OAC) responded with a 13-0 run to take a four point lead, one that
they would not give up for the rest of the half. The ONU lead would
grow to as many as seven in the period, but led only by one as the
two teams went into the locker room.
The Lady Quakers
started out strong in the second half, going on a 17-6 run to gain
a 10-point advantage six minutes into the period. The lead would
grow to as many as 15 in the half, and ended at 81-73.
Rausch scored
a game-high 30 points in the victory. Megan Woodruff (Sabina/East
Clinton) scored 19 and dished out seven assists while Siobhan Zerilla
(Cincinnati/Mercy) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a
game-high 13 rebounds. Rausch pulled down 12 rebounds for her fourth
double-double of the season.
ONU was led
by Kendra Bailey who put up 20 points while Jen Hrovat scored 18
and Alyssa Rickert chipped in with 15 in the loss.
The next game
for the Lady Quakers is set for Saturday, December 21, as the team
travels to Cincinnati, Ohio to face off against Mt. St. Joseph with
tip-off set for 2:00 p.m.
