Quakers defeat ONU 82-72
Freshman Sam Hood dishes out career-high 10 assists

(WC Press Release) Wilmington, OH (December 17, 2003) -- The Wilmington
College Lady Quakers bounced back from their second loss of the
season to defeat Ohio Northern 82-72 in conference action on Wednesday
evening.
Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) and Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont)
each scored 16 points while freshman point guard Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays
Valley) scored a career-high 13 points while dishing out a career-high
10 assists in the win.
The
Lady Quakers took a quick 5-0 lead scoring the game's first quintet
of points before the Polar Bears answered back with a 6-0 run of
their own, taking a one point lead. The lead went back and forth
for the next ten minutes until ONU took a six-point lead with 5:34
to play. The Green and White then ended the half on a 13-2 run to
take a five point lead into the locker room.
The Lady Quakers never trailed again, as the Green and White outscored
the Polar Bears 82-72 in the final period. Ohio Northern tied the
game once with seven minutes to play, but the Lady Quakers scored
nine of the next ten points to take a comfortable nine-point lead,
and cruised the rest of the way in the ten-point victory.
Rausch and Kincer led all scorers with 16 points while Hood scored
13 and Brittney Morris (Leesburg/Bethel Tate) scored 11. Rausch
pulled down 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) pulled down nine as the Lady
Quakers were out-rebounded 38-37 in the contest. Hood dished out
a career-high 10 assists for the hosts.
ONU
was led by Carrie Miller's 15 points as all 11 players that saw
action for the Polar Bears found the scoring column. Kendra Bailey
scored nine while Alyssa Rickert and Jackie O'Flaherty chipped in
eight each. O'Flaherty pulled down eight rebounds before fouling
out, while Bailey had six boards of her own. Miller dished out a
team-best four assists in the game.
With
the win, the Lady Quakers improve to 5-2 on the season and 2-1 in
the OAC while Ohio Northern falls to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in conference
action.
The next game for the Green and White is on Saturday, December 20
when they travel north to University Heights, Ohio to face off against
the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University with tip-off set for
3:00 p.m.
