Lady Quakersdrop game to B-W

Berea, OH (December 14, 2002) ­ The Lady Quakers of Wilmington College dropped just their second game of the season to 6th ranked Baldwin-Wallace College by an 85-84 score. The team was paced by Megan Woodruff's (New Vienna/East Clinton) 23 points and Tara Rausch's (Marysville/Fairbanks) 22.

The Lady Quakers (4-2, 1-1 OAC) and the Yellow Jackets traded baskets for the better part of the first half before Baldwin-Wallace (6-0, 2-0 OAC) opened up a six point advantage with 7:28 left in the period. The lead would grow to as many as nine, with 5:26 remaining, while the half ended with the Green and White trailing by eight at 46-38.

In the second half the Lady Quakers whittled the lead down to one with 17:16 left in the period before tying the game at 52 with 15:15 left in the game. WC got their first lead of the half with 11:56 left when Emily Cummins (Springfield/Northwestern) hit a jumper to take the game to 55-54. The visitor lead grew to as many as eight twice in the second half, including with 4:15 left in the game. The Yellow Jackets then hit six straight baskets, including five from three-point range, to take a four point lead with 1:14 left in the game. The Green and White cut it to a one point deficit when Cummins hit a three-point basket with a minute remaining to take the score to 85-84. After a pair of missed free throws by both teams, the Green and White had a chance to win the game, but a Woodruff running jumper just inside the free throw lane was off target, giving B-W the one-point victory.

Woodruff scored a game-high 23 points while Rausch scored 22, Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) scored 16 and Cummins put up 11. Zerilla pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds while Woodruff dished out eight assists.

B-W was led by Sarah Gordon who put up 22 points off of the bench, including a perfect 6-of-6 from three-point range. Holly Koepp scored 19 while Natalie Winkelfoos scored 18 and Karissa Kusick chipped in with 11. Koepp and point guard Nikki Altenweg each pulled down six rebounds as Altenweg also dished out a team-leading eight assists.

The next game for the Green and White is set for Wednesday, December 18 when the team travels to Ada, Ohio to face off against the Lady Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
