Quakers fall to 16th ranked Yellow Jackets

(WC Press Release) Wilmington, OH (December 13, 2003) -- The Wilmington
College Lady Quakers trailed by just one at halftime, but fell behind
by double digits with 13:35 to play in the game, and could not recover
from the deficit, as Baldwin-Wallace was victorious 73-57 in a match-up
between two ranked teams.
Tara
Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) led all scorers in the game with 18
points while Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) added 15 in the defeat.
The
Lady Quakers
and the Yellow Jackets battled back-and-forth through the first
five minutes of the game as the two teams were tied at seven with
15:18. B-W then went on a 10-0 run over the next five minutes to
take a double-digit lead. After the Lady Quakers cut the B-W advantage
to three over the next three minutes, the visitors from the north
went on a 9-0 run to up the lead to 12 at 26-14. The Lady Quakers
tightened their defense, and opened a 14-1 run to take a one-point
lead with 40-seconds to play in the first half. A basket by B-W's
Lindsay Meek with 11 seconds in the period gave the visitors a one
point lead heading into the break.
A
three-point basket by Samantha Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) to
open the scoring in the second half gave the hosts their last lead
of the game at 31-29. The Lady Quakers trailed by just one with
15:52 left in the contest before B-W opened a 14-0 run to take a
commanding lead that the Green and White could not recover from,
as the Yellow Jackets cruised the rest of the way in their 73-57
victory.
Rausch
led all scorers with 18 points while Kincer scored 15 and Emily
Cummins (Springfield/Northwestern) chipped in eight. Siobhan Zerilla
(Cincinnati/Mercy) pulled down a game-high nine rebounds while Rausch
pulled down eight in the loss.
Hood
dished out five assists to lead the team while Kincer grabbed four
steals.
B-W was led by Stephanne Musser who scored 15 points while Karissa
Kusick chipped in with 14. Michelle White pulled down a team-best
six rebounds off of the bench while Jen Neal blocked six shots in
the victory.
With
the loss the Lady Quakers fall to 4-2 on the season and 1-1 in the
OAC while B-W improves to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in conference action.
The
next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, December 17 when
the team plays host to the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University
with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
