Lady Quakers survive early surge in 12-point win

Streck and Smith score 16 points each off of bench

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Wilmington College Lady Quakers withstood an 11-0 run by Otterbein to start the game, defeating the host Cardinals 74-62 in OAC action on Wednesday evening. Erica Smith (Union/Northmont) and Katie Streck (Dayton/Carroll) each scored 16 points off of the bench for the Green and White.

Otterbein came out firing in the game, opening an 11-0 lead after three minutes, and held a nine-point lead with 13:50 to play in the first stanza before the Lady Quakers opened an 18-3 run, taking a six-point lead that they would keep for the remainder of the half. The lead grew to as many as seven before the Cardinals ended the half on an 8-2 run, cutting the deficit to one at the break.

Otterbein got the first two points of the second half before the Lady Quakers opened a 10-0 run, pushing the Lady Quaker lead to nine. The lead grew to as many as 15, ending at 12 at 74-62.

Streck and Smith led the way with 16 points while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy)added 11. Zerilla pulled down 14 rebounds in the contest, giving her 1,102 for her career, just two shy of the all-time leader, Linda Fittro, who ended her four-year career with 1,104. Streck added nine rebounds as the Lady Quakers out-rebounded the Cardinals by 21 in the win. Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) dished out five assists while Jackie Hauke (Sardinia/Whiteoak) and Zerilla dished out four apiece.

Otterbein put three players in double figure scoring, led by Abbey Perez’s 16 points while Sara Fee scored 11 and Danielle Holbrook added 10.

With the win, the Lady Quakers improve to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 in the OAC while Otterbein falls to 1-5 on the year and 0-2 in league action.

The next game for the Green and White is on Saturday, December 11 when the team plays host to the Student Princes of Heidelberg College with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m. at Fred Raizk Arena.
