Lady Quakers
use big first half to run past Mt. St. Joseph

Wilmington, OH (November 25, 2003) -- The Lady Quakers of Wilmington
College out-scored Mt. St. Joseph 47-22 in the first half before
running away with an 80-59 victory Tuesday evening.
The Green and
White never trailed in the game, as they opened up a 6-0 lead with
just under two minutes gone in the game. The Lions cut the deficit
to two on two separate occasions, including at the 14:37 mark when
the Lady Quakers held just a 12-10 lead before WC opened a 13-3
run to take a double figure lead. After Mt. St. Joseph cut the deficit
to seven with eight minutes to play, Wilmington ended the half with
a 22-4 run to put the game away.
The Wilmington
lead in the second half grew to as many as 39 before the Lions clawed
their way back, to within 31 at 80-59.
Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont)
led all scorers for the Lady Quakers with 20 points while Tara Rausch
(Marysville/Fairbanks) scored 14, Erica Smith (Union/Northmont)
scored 11 while Emily Cummins (Springfield/Northwestern) rounded
out the group in double figures with 10.
Rausch pulled
down a game-high 15 rebounds as the Lady Quakers out-rebounded their
opponent 60-36 in the contest. Katie Newman (North Olmstead/Magnificat)
and Samantha Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) each dished out five
assists to lead the squad while Kincer grabbed three steals.
MSJ was led
by Katie Swart and Nakeala Richardson who each scored 14 points,
while Virginia Grace scored 10 to go with 12 rebounds on the evening.
With the win,
the Lady Quakers improve to 2-1 on the season while MSJ falls to
1-2.
The next game
for the Green and White is on Saturday, November 29 when the team
travels to Columbus to face off against Ohio Dominican University
with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
