The Wilmington College Lady Quaker basketball team
has been named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association
(WBCA) Academic Top 25 Honor Roll.
The
awards recognize teams throughout the nation that have the
highest grade point averages (GPA) for the 2004-05 season
based upon nominations submitted by WBCA-member coaches.
The
Lady Quakers finished the school year in a tie for the 20th
best grade point averages among their Division III counterparts,
tying with Coe College of Iowa and Bowdoin College of Maine.
The three schools had grade point averages of 3.352 each.
York College finished with the highest grade point average
at 3.725.
"Our players know that they are expected to work in the classroom
that is the primary reason they are here," said head
coach Jerry Scheve. "The most satisfying thing for me is to
see some of our players who did not have a great academic
record in high school, come to Wilmington and really find
themselves academically."
The
Lady Quakers earned this honor for two consecutive years in
1998-99 and 1999-00 and two more in 2001-02 and 2002-03. WC
ended the 2004-05 season with a 23-5 record, earning a share
of the OAC regular season title.
The
team opens their 2005-06 season in the Damon's/Wilmington
Inn Tip-Off Tournament on November 18 and 19.
