named First Team All-American
ATLANTA, Ga.
(March 24, 2003) The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)
and the Eastman Kodak Company announced the e2003 NCAA Division
III Kodak All-America Women's Basketball Team. The WBCA member coaches
in each of the eight WBCA geographical regions voted upon the team.
Wilmington College senior point guard Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East
Clinton) was named one of the honorees for the squad.
Hardin-Simmons
senior forward Kendra Anderson was named the 2003 Player of the
Year in Division III. Anderson and Woodruff are joined on the team
by Amy Campion of Salisbury University, Kristi Channing of UW-Eau
Claire, Allison Coleman of Eastern Connecticut State University,
Amanda Kerkstra of Hope College, Amy Meggers of Buena Vista University,
Erika Smith of the University of Rochester, Sarah Walsh of Colby
College and Christina Vouriotis of Messiah College.
"It's always
exciting to see the outstanding group of talented athletes that
have been selected for the NCAA Division III Kodak/WBCA All-American
Women's Basketball Team," said Beth Bass, WBCA Chief Executive Officer.
"We are honored to remain a long-time partner with Kodak to recognize
and congratulate these stellar individuals for their contribution
to the sport of women's basketball."
Kodak recognizes
the accomplishments of young athetes and the positive recognition
they bring to their school by displaying their talents on the basketball
floor. "for the past 29 years, Kodak has been proud to partner with
the WBCA in honoring the best women's collegiate p layers as Kodak/WBCA
All-Americans," said Bud Denker, Director and VP Brand & Market
Development. "We acknowledge the accomplishments of these student-athletes
and the positive recognition they bring to their schools, their
communities and the game".
Founded in 1981,
the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all
levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport and to foster
and promote the development of the game as an amateur sports for
women and girls.
Woodruff ended
her career as the best career free throw shooter in NCAA Division
III history. She also holds the career school record in assists
(580), while also having the third highest point total in school
history. She holds single season records in assists, three point
field goals made, three point field goals attempted and free throw
percentage.
