(WC Press Release) VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (March 20, 2004) ­ The Wilmington College Lady Quakers picked up the schoolıs first-ever NCAA Team Title with a 59 to 53 victory over the Polar Bears of Bowdoin College.

The Green and White jumped out quickly in the game, opening a 9-2 lead with 15:23 to play in the half before the hosts recorded a field goal. Bowdoin rattled off eight straight points to take a one-point, 10-9 lead.

Over the next four minutes the lead changed hands four times before the Polar Bears used a 9-0 run to take a six-point lead with 7:15 to play in the half.The Lady Quakers clawed their way back to within three, but an Eileen Flaherty lay-in with 23 seconds in the half sent the team into the locker room with a five-point deficit.

In the second half the Lady Quakers trailed by as many as nine before rallying for the six-point win. Tara Rausch, the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament led the way with a game-high 19 points while Amy Kincer added 10. Emily Cummins scored nine points as Sam Hood chipped in seven.

A trio of Lady Quakers, Kincer, Rausch and Siobhan Zerilla each pulled down double figure rebounds, Zerilla and Rausch with 11 and Kincer with 10. Hood, just a freshman, dished out six assists while Kincer gave out five.

Bowdoin was led by Eileen Flaherty who scored 14 points, while Lora Trenkle chipped in a dozen. Justine Pouravelis pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds while Trenkle dished out eight assists.

With the win, the Lady Quakers pick up the first ever team National Championship, and the first for the Ohio Athletic Conference since Capital won it all in 1995.
