receives WBCA Scholarship Award
WILMINGTON
(March 6, 2003) The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)
has selected Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East Clinton) of Wilmington
College and Ashley Augspurger of Colorado State College as the 2003
WBCA Scholarship Award winners. These awards are presented annually
to two women's basketball players in any of the four WBCA collegiate
divisions (NCAA I, II, III, NAIA) who have demonstrated outstanding
commitment to the sports of women's basketball and to academic excellence.
These awards enable deserving student-athletes to complete their
undergraduate degrees or to begin work on advanced degrees. Each
award is in the amount of $1,000.
"Megan and Ashley
are both outstanding student-athletes and are very deserving of
our WBCA Scholarship," said WBCA Chief Executive Officer Beth Bass.
"On behalf of the WBCA membership, I want to congratulate them and
wish them all the best in their future endeavors." Woodruff and
Augspurger will be formally presented their awards during the Jostens-Berenson
Awards Lucnheon, Saturday, April 5, at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) at the
Georgia World Congress Center. The Jostens-Berenson Awards Luncheon
is a part of the 2003 WBCA National Convention held in Atlanta,
Ga. In conjunction with the NCAA Division I Women's Final Four.
Woodruff, a senior guard from Ohio, is averaging 17.6 points per
game and leads the team with 198 assists. She holds the school record
in career assists and season assists.
Woodruff led
her team to their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance in the 1999-2000
season. She has a perfect 4.0 GPA in Athletic Training and was named
to the 2003 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conferece First Team.
Augspurger led
Colorado State to postseason play in her first three years, and
she hopes to make it again as a senior. Last year, she scored her
1,000th point, becoming the 12th player in Ram women's school history
to score over 1,000 points.Augspurger
was named this year to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-District VII
Women's Basketball University Division Team, and she is carrying
a 3.92 in Biological Studies.

1981, the WBCA promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at
all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sports and to
foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects
