Lady Quakers earn third straight trip to the "Sweet 16"

Trio of seniors score 56 of teamıs 75 points

(WC Press Release) FRANKLIN, In. (March 6, 2004) ­ The Wilmington College Lady Quakers earned their third straight trip to the NCAA Division III "Sweet 16" with a 75-60 victory over Franklin (IN) College on Saturday.

Tara Rausch led the way for the Lady Quakers with 22 points and 15 rebounds while seniors Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) and Emily Cummins (Springfield/Northwestern) scored 18 and 16 each in the win.

The Lady Quakers trailed just three times in the first period, as Wilmingtonıs lead grew to as many as six with 3:35 left in the half. The host Grizzlies clawed their way back into the game with a 7-0 run, taking a one-point lead before the Lady Quakers ended the half with a 3-0 run to give the visitors a two-point halftime advantage.

A Jenny Cramer jumper to start the second half knotted the game at 33 before the Green and White opened a 12-4 run to take an eight-point lead, one that they would not give up for the remainder of the game. The Lady Quakers kept their foot on the gas pedal, increasing the lead to as many as 19 with 59 seconds to play, as the game ended with a 4-0 Franklin run, ending the game with its 75-60 final score.

Rausch led all scorers with 22 points while Kincer and Cummins scored 18 and 16. Freshman Erica Smith (Englewood/Northmont) added 10 points for the Lady Quakers. Rausch pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds, while Kincer and Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) each pulled down seven rebounds as the Lady Quakers out-rebounded Franklin 52-44 in the game. Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) dished out four assists to lead the Green and White.

Franklin was led by Leslie Mehrlich, who scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for the double-double.

With the win the Lady Quakers improve to 23-6 overall while Franklin, the Heartland Conference champion falls to 23-5.

The next game for the Green and White will be this weekend, when they will face off against Thomas More at a location yet to be determined.
