Quakers advance to NCAA for third straight year

Press Release) WILMINGTON, Ohio (February 28, 2004) -- The Wilmington
College Lady Quakers advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the third
time in three years and for the fourth time in five seasons with
a 73-54 victory over Otterbein College in the Ohio Athletic Conference
Tournament championship game.
Tara
Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) scored a game-high 19 points while
pulling down 20 rebounds.
The
Lady Quakers and Cardinals fought back and forth for the first five
minutes of the game before the Lady Quakers took an 11-point lead
with 6:42 to play in the game. The visitors from Westerville fought
back and used a 18-5 run to take a two-point lead with 35 seconds
to play in the half, their first and final lead of the contest.
Kara Robinson (Zanesville/Bishop Rosecrans) put in a follow-up lay-up
as time expired to tie the score at 28 heading into the locker room.
The
Lady Quakers came out firing in the second half, opening the period
with an 18-6 run, increasing the lead to a dozen with 12 minutes
to play. The Cardinals cut the deficit to five with 9:05 to play,
before WC opened a 12-0 run to put the game away, as the team cruised
for the 73-54 win.
Rausch
led four in double figures, while Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont)
and Erica Smith (Englewood/Northmont) each scored 12 and Emily Cummins
(Springfield/Northwestern) put up 10. Freshman point guard Sam Hood
(Lockbourne/Teays Valley) scored nine while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy)
chipped in seven. Rausch pulled down a game-high 20 rebounds while
Zerilla grabbed 14 as the Green and White out-rebounded Otterbein
56-25 in the contest.

Otterbein
was led by Diana Esterkamp who scored 13 points while Abbey Perez
pulled down six rebounds.
With
the win the Lady Quakers improve to 21-6 overall while Otterbein
falls to 23-5.
The
Lady Quakers find who they will play on Sunday evening at 10:00,
when the selection show is set to start.
