Third time the charm for the Lady Quakers in OAC Semi-final

13-0 run to start second half paces Green and White to win

(WC Press Release) COLUMBUS, Ohio (February 26, 2004) ­ The third time was the charm for the Lady Quakers, as the Green and White came up victorious in the OAC Semi-Finals against Capital by an 83-69 score after being swept by the Crusaders in the regular season.

The Lady Quakers and Crusaders fought back and forth for the majority of the first half until the 9:09 mark of the first half when Emily Cummins (Springfield/Northwestern) hit a three-point basket, giving the Lady Quakers a three-point lead, one that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game. The first half lead grew to as many as nine, with 2:48 to play, before the Crusaders ended the half with a 7-2 run, cutting the Green and White lead to four heading into the locker room.

The Lady Quakers started the first half on fire, hitting six of their first nine shots in a 13-0 run, increasing the lead to 17 with 16:15 to play in the game. The Crusaders buckled down, and opened an 11-0 run of their own, cutting the deficit to five with 11:27 to play. The five points would be as close as the hosts would come, as the Lady Quakers increased their lead to 17, three minutes later and never looked back, cruising to the 14-point win.

Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) led the Lady Quakers with 22 points while pulling down 12 rebounds, while Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) scored 13 and Erica Smith (Englewood/Northmont) and Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) scored 12 and 11 points respectively. Zerilla pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds for the Lady Quakers, as the team out-rebounded the Crusaders 51-39 in the contest. Hood dished out a game-high eight assists while Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) gave out five scores.

Capital was led by Kati Todd who scored a game-high 31 points while Markee Armentrout put in a dozen.

With the win the Lady Quakers improve to 20-6, their third consecutive 20-win season, while Capital falls to 20-7.

The next game for the Green and White is on Saturday, February 28, when the team hosts the Cardinals of Otterbein College in the OAC Championship, with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m. in Fred Raizk Arena.
