Lady Quakers
advance with convincing 93-69 victory
WILMINGTON --
(February 25, 2003) The Wilmington College Lady Quakers used a
convincing 93-69 victory over the Lady Muskies of Muskingum College
to advance to the OAC Tournament Semi-Finals, in the hopes of defending
their OAC Tournament crown.
Wilmington (23-2)
jumped out to an 8-point, 14-6 lead six and a half minutes into
the half before the visitors from New Concord clawed their way back,
and eventually took a one-point lead at 22-21 with 8:38 to play
in the half. Wilmington then opened a 20-4 run to take control of
the game, giving the hosts a 16-point advantage. The first half
lead grew to as many as 18, as the Green and White went into the
locker room up by 18 at 47-29.
In the second
half Muskingum (11-15) fell victim to a 6-0 run out of the gate,
and were never closer than 21 the rest of the way.
Emily Cummins
(Springfield/Northwestern) led the way for the Quakers with a career-high
23 points, including a new school record of seven three-point baskets
in a game. The junior hit 8-of-10 shots in the game and 7-of-8 from
beyond the three-point arc, including her last seven. Tara Rausch
(Marysville/Fairbanks) put up 12 points while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy)
and Shari Stauffer each chipped in 10. Zerilla pulled down a game-high
16 rebounds while Stauffer had 12 as the Green and White out-rebounded
their opponent 55-26 in the contest. Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East
Clinton) dished out a game-high 11 assists while Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont)
gave out nine scores in the contest.
Muskingum put
four players in double figure scoring with Jennifer Huffman leading
the way with 17. Jessica Gates scored 16 while Lindsay Mast scored
12 and Leslie Kimble chipped in 11.
The next game
for the Green and White is on Friday, February 28 when the Lady
Quakers play in the semi-finals of the OAC Tournament against the
Purple Raiders of Mount Union College at Baldwin-Wallace College.
