Lady Quakers hold off feisty Heidelberg squad

Tara Rausch leads team with 22 points

(WC Press Release) Wilmington, Ohio (February 21, 2004) -- The Wilmington College Lady Quakers held off a strong Heidelberg squad by a 73-65 final score.

Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks), in her final regular season home game, scored a game-high 22 points while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) pulled down 17 rebounds.

Heidelberg came out of the gate firing, and took a six-point lead with 10:38 to play in the game, before the Lady Quakers used a 17-5 run to take a six point lead of their own, one that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the game.

The Student Princes fought back and tied the game at 44 with 15:27 to play in the game, before the Green and White opened an 8-0 run to take an eight point lead as the hosts cruised the rest of the way in the eight point win.

Rausch led the team with 22 points, while Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) scored 15, Zerilla scored 11 and Brittney Morris (Hamersville/Bethel-Tate) had 10. Zerilla pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds with Rausch chipping in seven boards as the team out-rebounded their opponent 54-42 in the contest. Freshman Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) dished out seven assists for the victors.

Heidelberg was led by Heidi Galm, who scored 19 points, 17 of which came in the first half. Liza Simrell and Rachel Babione scored 12 and 11 respectively.

With the win the Lady Quakers improve to 18-6 overall and 14-4 in the OAC while Heidelberg falls to 10-15 and 8-10 in league play.

The next game for the Lady Quakers is on Tuesday, February 24 when the team plays host to the Muskies of Muskingum College with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
