Lady Quakers earn share of OAC Title with win

MARIETTA, Ohio — The Wilmington College Lady Quakers assured themselves a share of the regular season Ohio Athletic Conference title with a 76-60 victory over Marietta College on Saturday afternoon.

The team, an hour later, proceeded to win the coin toss for top seed in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Lady Quakers trailed briefly in the game, as Marietta jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the visitors used an 11-0 run to take a seven-point lead that they would not give up for the remainder of the game. The first-half lead grew to as many as 20 at 38-18 with 2:11 to play in the period before the hosts closed to within 18 at 41-23 at the break.

In the second half the Lady Quakers kept their double digit lead, increasing it to as many s 22, as the Green and White cruised to the 16-point win.

Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) scored a team-high 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting while Erica Smith (Union/Northmont) scored 13 points. Kelly Peters (Spencerville/Spencerville) and Shawna Thomas (Middletown/Middletown) scored 11 and 10 respectively. Zerilla pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, as the Lady Quakers out-rebounded their opponent by 10 at 46-36.

Zerilla and Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) each dished out five assists, while Zerilla picked off seven steals and Thomas blocked two shots to lead the team.

Marietta was led by Justine Pagenhardt, who scored a game-high 24 points, while no other Pioneer reached double figures in the contest.

With the win, the Lady Quakers improve to 21-4 overall and 16-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference while Marietta falls to 10-14 overall and 8-10 in league play.

The Lady Quakers, the top seed in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament, play host to Heidelberg College on Tuesday evening in Fred Raizk Arena, with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
