Lady Quakers clinch OAC Title with 21-point victory

WESTERVILLE - (February 19, 2003) ­ The Wilmington College Lady Quakers shot a blistering 65.4% from the field en-route to a 21-point, 80-59 victory over the Cardinals of Otterbein College on Wednesday evening. With the win the Lady Quakers set a new school record with their 17th consecutive victory, breaking the record that they set last sesaon, in addition to clinching the OAC Regular Season Title for the second consecutive season. Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) led the cause with 33 points on 15-of-18 shooting from the field.

Wilmington (21-2, 16-1 OAC) started the game on a 6-0 run, taking a lead that they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest. The visitors led by 13 with 10 minutes to play in the first half before the hosts mounted a 12-0 run to cut the deficit to one with 6:56 to play in the half. The Lady Quakers then scored the next four points to give the Green and White a five point lead. After having Otterbein slash the lead to four with 2:10 left in the half, WC ended the half on a 6-0 run to take a 10-point, 39-29 halftime lead.

In the second half Otterbein (19-5, 12-5 OAC) cut the lead to four, four minutes into the half before the Lady Quakers went on an 11-0 run to take a double-digit lead that they would not relinquish. The second half lead grew to as many as 23 just 20 seconds before the buzzer before the Cardinals hit a shot with nine seconds left to give the game its 80-59 final score.

Rausch scored a career-high 33 points while Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East Clinton) scored 17 and dished out a career-high-tying 12 assists while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinanti/Mercy) added 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

Otterbein was led by Diana Esterkamp who scored 19 points while Brianne Gray scored 14 and Michelle Keeney added 10.

The Lady Quakers are next set to travel to Tiffin, Ohio on Saturday, February 22 to face off against Heidelberg College with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m. on title.

Woodruff named Verizon Academic All-District

WILMINGTON - (February 18, 2003) ­ Wilmington College senior Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East Clinton) has been named to the Verizon Academic All-District team. Woodruff joins five others on the first team that are now eligible for the National Ballot.

The Third Team Verizon Academic All-American in the 2001-02 season has a perfect 4.0 grade point average in Athletic Training. The senior is second on the Lady Quakers squad in scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game while ranking second in the OAC and third in Division III in assists per game.

The Lady Quakers play tonight at Otterbein College, and with the win will clinch their second consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title.
