Lady Quakers hold on for three point victory

WILMINGTON - (February 15, 2003) ­ The Wilmington College Lady Quakers opened the game on a 12-0 run and never trailed the rest of the way in the three point, 82-79 Lady Quaker victory. The win improves the Lady Quakers' current winning streak to 16 games as Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East Clinton) became the school's all-time assist leader when she dished out her 11th assist in the game. She ended the game with 12 assists and 524 in her career.

Wilmington (20-2, 15-1 OAC) opened the game on a 12-0 run, and opened a 20-point, 23-3 lead just seven and a half minutes into the first half. The lead grew to as many as 24 as the Green and White went into the locker room up by 22 at 49-27.

In the second half Mount Union (12-11, 7-9 OAC) trailed by as many as 29 points, and were down by 23 with 5:10 left when the Purple Raiders came roaring back. The team scored 22 of the game's last 24 points, including the last 14, but were unable to overcome the 23-point deficit and were defeated 82-79.

Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) led all scorers with 25 points on the night on 12-of-16 shooting while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) added 16 points. Zerilla pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds while Rausch grabbed 13 for a double-double. Woodruff scored just nine points in the game, but dished out 12 assists to lead the team.

Mount Union put four players in double figure scoring, led by Nikki Scarpitti who scored 22 points. Allie Graf scored 16 points while Dana Robinson scored 10 and picked off nine steals while Ashley Bourdeau tallied 10 points and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.

With the win, the Lady Quakers improved their winning streak to a school-record-tying 16 games while their 20 wins is the seventh in school history and sixth out of the last seven years.

The next game for the Lady Quakers is on Wednesday, February 19 when the team travels to Westerville, Ohio to face off against the Lady Cardinals of Otterbein College. With a win in Westerville, the Lady Quakers will clinch their second straight OAC Regular Season Title.
