Lady Quakers squeak out nine-point win

Rausch scores 20 while pulling down 19 in victory

(WC Press Release) Alliance, Ohio (February 14, 2004) -- Wilmington College senior forward Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) continued her strong week with 20 points and 19 rebounds in the team's 77-68 victory over Mount Union College on Saturday.

The Lady Quakers found themsleves down for the better part of the first half, as Mount Union held a 18-17 lead with 9:04 to play. The Lady Quakers proceeded to open a 9-0 run and never trailed the rest of the way. The lead grew to as many as eight in the period before the Purple Raiders cut the deficit to three by halftime.

The Lady Quakers came out firing in the second half and opened a 10-point lead six minutes into second half action. The closest that the Purple Raiders would come the rest of the way was five with four minutes left before the team ended the game with a 7-3 run.

Rausch had game-highs in points and rebounds while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) scored a season-high 18 points to go with her 10 rebounds, as the Lady Quakers out-rebounded the Purple Raiders 58-31. Brittney Morris (Hammersville/Bethel-Tate) scored nine points while dishing out a team-high five assists.

Mount Union was led by Kyla Hogan who scored 20 points, while Ashley Bourdeau scored 16 and Lauren Freidrich and Abbey Moore each scored 10. Lisa Dubinsky pulled down a team-best eight rebounds while Hogan dished out four assists to pace the team.

With the win the Lady Quakers improve to 17-5 overall and 13-3 in the OAC while Mount Union falls to 4-19 on the year and 1-15 in conference action.

The next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, February 18 when the team plays host to Otterbein College with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
