TIFFIN,
Ohio ‹ The Wilmington College Lady Quakers used a 29-8 run
over a ten minutes span of the second half to turn a 10-point
halftime deficit into a double digit lead of their own, as
they never trailed again in the game.
Courtney
Balser (Pleasant Plain/Little Miami) led four Lady Quakers
in double figures with 17, while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy)
recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 15 points
and 11 rebounds.
The two teams battled for the first three minutes of the game,
with the Lady Quakers holding onto a 5-4 lead before Heidelberg
opened a 15-4 run to take a 10-point lead that they would
not give up for the remainder of the half.
The
Lady Quakers cut the deficit to as few as six with 4:30 to
play, before the Student Princes went on an 8-0 run to increase
the lead to double figures, taking a 10-point, 36-26 lead
into the locker room for halftime.
The
Lady Quakers scored the first three points of the second half,
cutting the deficit to seven before a 5-2 run gave Heidelberg
a 10-point lead with 17:15 to play in the game.
The Lady Quakers then took charge in the game, opening a 29-8
run over the next ten minutes, increasing their lead to 11
when Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) hit a three-point
basket with 7:02 to play in the game.
Heidelberg
was able to get within eight, but an 8-1 run to end the game
gave the Lady Quakers the 15-point, 72-57 victory.
After
being held to 26 points in the first half, the Lady Quakers
put up 46 in the second stanza, shooting 43.8% from the field
in the period.
Balser
led the way with 17 points while Zerilla scored 15, freshman
Katie Streck (Dayton/Carroll) scored 12 while Hood chipped
in 10. Kara Robinson (Zanesville/Bishop Rosecrans) was just
off of the double figure pace with eight points.
Zerilla pulled down 11 rebounds, as the Lady Quakers out-rebounded
the Student Princes 44-40 in the contest. Hood dished out
a game-high seven assists, while picking off three steals
to pace the squad.
Heidelberg
was led by Amanda Campbell, who scored 17 points, whie Rachel
Babione scored 14 points, 11 of which came in the first half.
Sharonda Willis pulled down eight rebounds, while Babione
and Campbell each dished out four assists to pace the team.
With
the win, the Lady Quakers improve to 19-4 overall and 14-2
in the OAC, while Heidelberg falls below .500 at 11-12 on
the season and 5-11 in league play. The
Lady Quakers remain in a two-way tie for first place in the
league, as Baldwin-Wallace picked up a victory over Muskingum
this afternoon.
The next game for the Lady Quakers is on Wednesday, February
16 as the team plays host to conference rival Otterbein College.
