Lady Quakers overpower Muskingum

WILMINGTON - (February 12, 2003) ­ The Lady Quakers of Wilmington College used a 13-0 run to start the game as they ran away with their 15th consecutive victory, an 81-54 win over conference foe Muskingum College.

Wilmington (19-2, 12-1 OAC) jumped out to a 13-0 lead, and held the Lady Muskies scoreless for the first four and a half minutes of the game, as the team never led by less than 11 for the rest of the game. The first half lead grew to as many as 28 when Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) hit a lay-up with 2:06, giving the Green and White a 47-19 lead, the same score that they went into the locker room with at halftime.

Muskingum (8-13, 4-11 OAC) scored first in the second half before the Lady Quakers used a 7-0 run to open the lead to 35 points. The Lady Quakers lead would grow to as high as 36 before the Lady Muskies chipped it to 27 at the final buzzer.

Rausch led all scorers with 22 points while Shari Stauffer (Versailles/Versailles) scored 12 and Brittney Morris (Hammersville/Bethel-Tate) scored a season-high 10 points. Meagan Woodruff (New Vienna/East Clinton) dished out a game-high seven assists while Rausch pulled down 12 rebounds and Stauffer and Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) each grabbed 11 for the Lady Quakers.

Muskingum was led by Jennifer Huffman who score 12 points as Jessica Gates scored 11 and Lindsay Mast put up 10.

The next game for the Green and White is on Saturday, February 15 when the team plays host to Mount Union with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m. The game is also senior/parents night, as the team will be honoring their four seniors and the parents of all the ladies on the squad.
