Quakers use early run to take victory

WILMINGTON,
Ohio The Wilmington College Lady Quakers used a 29-6
first-half run to give the team a commanding lead that they
would not give up for the remainder of the contest in the
71-55 victory over Ohio Northern University.
Four Lady Quakers scored in double figures, with three of
them scoring a dozen.
The
two teams battled back-and-forth for the first nine minutes
of the first half, before the Polar Bears jumped out to a
three-point, 17-14 lead with 11:54 to play in the stanza.
From there the Lady Quakers opened the floodgates, jumping
on a 29-6 run, taking a 20-point lead nine minutes later,
cruising to a 45-29 halftime lead.
The
Lady Quakers increased their second-half lead to as many as
21 before emptying the bench, as all 20 players in uniform
saw action in the contest, in the 71-55 win.
Katie
Streck (Dayton/Carroll), Erica Smith (Union/Northmont) and
Courtney Balser (Pleasant Plain/Little Miami) each scored
12 points while Kelly Peters (Spencerville/Spencerville) added
10 in the winning effort. Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy)
pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds while Anne Haky (North
Olmsted/North Olmsted) dished out eight assists, seven in
the first half.
Ohio
Northern was led by Jen Hrovat's 12 points while Jenny Beane
scored 10 off of the bench.
With
the win, the Lady Quakers improve to 18-4 overall and 13-2
in the OAC, while Ohio Northern falls to 11-11 overall and
6-9 in league play.
The
next game for the Green and White is on Saturday, February
12 as the team travels to Tiffin, Ohio to take on the Student
Princes of Heidelberg College with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
