Lady Quakers use late run to give the team a two-point win

WILMINGTON, Ohio —The Wilmington College Lady Quakers used a 13-4 run over the last 5:30 of the game to improve to 17-4 overall with a 69-67 win over the feisty Blue Streaks of John Carroll University.

Senior forward Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) scored a career-high 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting while pulling down a team-high 13 rebounds.

The Lady Quakers came out of the gate strong, opening a nine-point lead five minutes into the game, increasing it to as many as 13 with nine minutes to play before the Blue Streaks started clawing back, closing to within three at 38-35 by halftime.

The Lady Quakers kept their lead until Shayla Bell scored two of her game-high 30 points, giving the visitors a 50-49 lead with 10:12 to play in the game. The Blue Streaks increased their lead to seven with 5:23 to play in the game before the hosts ended the contest on a 13-4 run, giving the Lady Quakers their 17th win of the season.

Zerilla led the way for the Lady Quakers with 24 points, while Katie Streck (Dayton/Carroll) scored 13 and Kelly Peters (Spencerville/Spencerville) nine in the winning effort. Zerilla pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds while Streck pulled down nine, in helping the Lady Quakers out-rebound the Blue Streaks 50-36 in the contest. Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) dished out a game-high seven assists, as three different players recorded a blocked shot.

Bell scored 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting from the field and 3-of-6 shooting from three-point range, while Meagan Heller scored 14. Heller and Megan Banks each pulled down five rebounds, while Amy Esser dished out four assists.

With the win, the Lady Quakers improve to 17-4 overall and 12-2 in the OAC while John Carroll falls to 9-11 overall and 6-8 in league play.

The next game for the Lady Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. in Fred Raizk Arena.
