Quakers
overcome poor shooting second half in 11-point victory
WILMINGTON,
Ohio (February 5, 2003) The Lady Quakers scored just 25 second
half points as the team held onto an 11-point, 70-59 victory over
conference rival Capital University on Wednesday evening. The 70
points are the second lowest scoring total of the season for the
Lady Quakers. Leading the way for the Green and White in the game
was Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) who scored 21 points, including
the 1,000th of her career with 14:49 remaining in the first half.
Capital (7-11,
6-7 OAC) jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead over the first two minutes
and led by one with 15:35 left in the period before the Green and
White went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good in the game. The
Crusaders cut the lead to four at 24-20 with just over nine minutes
left in the half before WC unleashed a 17-0 run over the next six
minutes to take a 21-point lead. The Crusaders fought back and were
able to cut the deficit to 14 by the intermission at 45-31.
12th ranked
Wilmington (17-2, 12-1 OAC) managed to keep a double-digit second
half lead until Danielle Meyer hit a lay-up with 9:14 left in the
game, cutting the deficit to nine. The Crusaders came to within
four points with 3:23 left, but that would be as close as the visitors
from Bexley would come, as the Lady Quakers ended the game on a
7-0 run.
Rausch scored
21 points for the Lady Quakers while Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East
Clinton) scored 16 and Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) and Amy
Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) each chipped in 12. Zerilla grabbed
a game-high 14 rebounds while Rausch recorded 12 rebounds and Shari
Stauffer (Versailles/Versailles) had 10 boards in the game while
Woodruff dished out a game-high seven assists.
The Crusaders
were led by Meyer who scored 19 points in the loss. Michelle Budd
pulled down seven rebounds while Mara Boyer dished out four assists.
The next game
for the Green and White is on Saturday, February 8 when the team
travels to University Heights to face off against the John Carroll
Blue Streaks.
