Quakers fall to Capital 72-68

Columbus, Oh. (February 4, 2004) -- The Wilmington College Lady
Quakers were unable to avenge their last loss of the season, as
the team fell to the Crusaders of Capital University for the second
time in two weeks, this time 72-68.
Tara Rausch
(Marysville/Fairbanks) and Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) each
scored 17 points to lead the team. The Green and White came out
firing out of the gate, hitting their first four shots of the contest
and opening a 9-0 lead after a minute and a half. Capital answered
back with a 13-0 run to take a four-point lead with 12 minutes in
the period. The two teams battled back and forth before Capital
used a 4-0 run over the last minute to take a six-point halftime
lead.
The two teams
again battled back and forth in the second half until Capital opened
a 10-point, 63-53 lead with 4:32 to play in the game. The Lady Quakers
chipped away at the lead and cut it to one with 18 seconds to play
when Rausch hit the free throw on a three-point play. Capital hit
three-of-four free throws down the stretch to put the Green and
White away in the contest.
Rausch and Kincer
each scored 17 while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) scored 11
and Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) put in 10. Zerilla pulled
down a game-high 14 rebounds as Rausch grabbed 10 for double-doubles
each. Hood and Kincer each dished out three assists as Kincer blocked
a career-high four shots.
Capital was
led by Markee Armentrout, who scored a career-high 15 points while
Kati Todd scored 14 and Sara Heitkamp scored 10.
With the loss,
the Lady Quakers fall to 14-5 overall and 10-3 in the OAC while
Capital improves to 16-4 while holding a two-game lead in the OAC
with a 12-1 record.
The next game
for the Green and White is on Saturday, February 7 when the team
plays host to the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University with tip-off
set for 3:00 p.m.
