COLUMBUS,
Ohio ‹ The Wilmington College Lady Quakers had their seven-game
win streak snapped on Wednesday evening at the hands of the
Capital University Crusaders by a 62-55 count in Columbus.
Seven
Quakers reached the scoring column in the game, with only
Katie Streck (Dayton/Carroll) reaching double figures with
13 in the game.
The
two teams battled back-and-forth in the first half, with each
team holding at least a four-point lead in the half. The Lady
Quakers led by six with 7:11 to play in the half when Capital
ended the half on a 13-3 run, taking a four-point lead into
the locker room at halftime.
The
Crusaders struck first in the second half, opening a six-point
lead before the Lady Quakers opened a 9-0 run to take a three-point
lead with 16:06 to play in the game. The lead would be the
last for the Lady Quakers, as Capital responded with a 13-4
run to take a six point lead that they would not give up for
the remainder of the game. The Lady Quaker deficit grew to
as many as nine in the closing seconds before Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays
Valley) hit a lay-in as time expired to give the game its
62-55 final score.
Streck
scored 13 while Courtney Balser (Pleasant Plain/Little Miami)
and Kara Robinson (Zanesville/Bishop Rosecrans) each scored
nine and Hood added eight. Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy)
pulled down a team-high nine rebounds, as the Lady Quakers
were out-rebounded 42-38 in the game. Hood led the team with
three assists while Streck blocked two shots to lead the team.
Kati
Todd of Capital scored a career-high 24 points while Sara
Heitkamp added 15, including the 1,000th of her career. Jennifer
Lilly pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds as Heitkamp dished
out seven assists.
With
the loss, the Lady Quakers fall to 16-4 on the year and 11-2
in the OAC while Capital improves to 15-4 overall and 9-4
in league play.
The next game for the Lady Quakers is on Saturday, February
5 as the team plays host to the Blue Streaks of John Carroll
University with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m. in Fred Raizk Arena.
