Rausch explodes with 27 in Lady Quaker victory

MARIETTA, Ohio (February 1, 2003) Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) scored a game-high 27 points as the Lady Quakers of Wilmington College ran away with a 71-52 victory over the Pioneers of Marietta College. With the 27 points, Rausch needs just five more points to reach the 1,000 point plateau for her career.

Wilmington (16-2, 11-1) scored the first five points in the game as the team never trailed in the contest. The Pioneers kept the Lady Quaker lead to single digits for most of the first half before the Green and White scored the last six points of the half, opening a 14-point, 33-19 lead.

Marietta (8-10, 3-9 OAC) scored first in the second half, but it was not enough as the Lady Quaker lead grew to 20 with 14 minutes left in the game. The 20-point advantage represented the largest margin the visitors from Wilmington would garnish as Marietta kept fighting, and ended the game trailing by 19 at 71-52.

Rausch led the way for the Lady Quakers, scoring 27 points while Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East Clinton) overcame a 1-for-10 shooting night to still score 13 points in the game. Shari Stauffer (Versailles/Versailles) added eight points for the Green and White in the win. Rausch pulled down a game-high nine rebounds while Woodruff dished out 10 assists.

Marietta put just one player in double figures in the game, as Lish Yoder scored 20 in the loss. Katie Moriarty and Beth Bakos each scored seven while Amanda Baum pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds.

The next game for the Green and White is set for Wednesday, February 5 when the team plays host to Capital University with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. The game is also Clinton County Night, with Clinton County residents getting a reduced rate of $1 for children and $3 for adults in the game.
