Lady Quakers run past Marietta 83-48

Tara Rausch moves into second place in WC career scoring

(WC Press Release) Wilmington, OH (January 31, 2004) -- The Wilmington College Lady Quakers improved to 14-4 on the season with an 83-48 victory over the Pioneers of Marietta College on Saturday.

Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) led the way for the Green and White with 15 points and 15 rebounds while Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) moved into second place in career scoring at Wilmington with 10 points, passing 2000 graduate Heather Meranda's 1,566 career points. Rausch ended the game with 1570 thus far in her career.

The Lady Quakers jumped out of the gate with a 7-0 run and never trailed the rest of the way. Marietta cut the deficit to four with 10:15 to play in the half before WC used a 15-4 run to increase their lead to double digits. After having the lead cut to 10, the hosts opened another run, this one 10-0 to end the half with a 20-point, 44-24 lead.

The Lady Quakers scored the first five points of the second half, as the team cruised to the 35-point win.

Zerilla led all scorers with 15 points while Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) scored 14 and Rausch and Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) each chipped in 10. Zerilla pulled down 15 rebounds as WC out-rebounded the visitors from Marietta 52-40. Hood dished out seven assists to lead the squad while she and Emily Cummins (Springfield/Northwestern) each grabbed three steals.

Marietta was led by Amanda Baum and Rebecca ToKodi who each scored 10 points while ToKodi pulled down 10 rebounds for the double-double.

With the win the Lady Quakers improve to 14-4 on the season and 10-2 in the OAC while Marietta falls to 7-12 overall and 1-11 in conference action.

The next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, February 4 when the team travels north to Columbus, Ohio to face off against the Crusaders of Capital University with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
