Lady Quakers defeat ONU by 19

WILMINGTON, Ohio (January 29, 2003) ­ The Wilmington College Lady Quakers, fresh off of an upset over eighth ranked Baldwin-Wallace showed no sign of a letdown on Wednesday evening as the Lady Quakers defeated Ohio Northern University 78-59. Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East Clinton) led the way with 26 points including a school-record-tying six three point baskets in a single game, going 6-of-11 from three-point range.

Ohio Northern (6-12, 2-9 OAC) scored first in the game with a lay-up by Kendra Bailey before the Green and White rattled off eight straight points to take a six point lead. The WC lead would grow to as many as 24 in the period at 41-27 with 3:42 left in the half before the Polar Bears outscored the hosts 9-2 the rest of the half to cut the halftime deficit to 17 at 42-36.

Wilmington (15-2, 10-1 OAC) scored first in the second stanza and never looked back the rest of the way. The Lady Quakers led by 30 with 5:51 left in the game before the Polar Bear defense stepped up and held the Green and White to just two points the rest of the way, cutting the deficit to 19 by the final horn at 78-59.

Woodruff led all scorers with 26 points while Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) scored 16 and Siobhan Zerilla had 14. Zerilla and Shari Stauffer (Versailles/Versailles) each pulled down a game-leading 16 rebounds in the contest as the Lady Quakers out-rebounded the Polar Bears 54-37 in the game. Stauffer also had a game-high four assists to lead the squad.

The Polar Bears were led by Kendra Bailey who scored 10 points while Staci Stevens chipped in seven. Angela Petrosino pulled down five rebounds to lead the team as Bailey and Petrosino each dished out three assists.

The next game for the Green and White is set for Saturday, February 1 when the team travels to Marietta to face off against the Pioneers in the brand new Ban Johnson Fieldhouse with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m. .
