CONCORD, Ohio The Wilmington College Lady Quakers, behind
a 54-point first-half effort cruised to a 93-53 Ohio Athletic Conference
victory on Wednesday night over the Muskies of Muskingum College.
Four
Lady Quakers scored in double figures, led by a career high 14 points
from Kelly Peters (Spencerville/Spencerville) and 14 from freshman
Katie Streck (Dayton/Carroll).
The
two teams started the game even, as the Muskies held a one-point,
10-9 lead with 14:22 to play in the half before the Lady Quaker
offense erupted, opening a 16-4 run, and a 24-4 run within the last
10 minutes of the first period, scoring a season-high 54 points
in the first half in leading 54-27.
The
Lady Quakers kept their foot on the gas pedal for the remainder
of the game, leading by as many as 44 in the game, and by 40 at
the final buzzer with the final score standing at 93-53.
Peters
and Streck led the way with 14 points apiece while Kara Robinson
(Zanesville/Bishop Rosecrans) scored 11 and Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays
Valley) added 10. In all, 20 players saw action for the Green and
White, with 16 of them reaching the scoring column and no player
playing more than 19 minutes. Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy)
pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, as the Lady Quakers out-rebounded
the Muskies 49-26 in the contest. Anne Haky (North Olmsted/North
Olmsted) dished out a career-high 12 assists in the win.
Muskingum
put two players in double figure scoring, led by Renee Thatcher
and Leah Miller who each had 10 points in the loss. Miller and Carissa
Wayland each pulled down four rebounds as four others had two assists.
With
the win, the Lady Quakers improve to 15-3 overall and 10-1 in the
OAC, keeping their lead in the OAC intact. Muskingum falls to 3-14
overall and 2-9 in league action.
The
next game for the Green and White is on Saturday, January 29 when
the team plays host to the Purple Raiders of Mount Union College
with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
