Quakers win battle of top 15 teams by 21
WILMINGTON,
Ohio (January 25, 2003) The 14th ranked Lady Quakers of Wilmington
College defeated the eighth ranked Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets
83-62 on Saturday. Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East Clinton) led
all scorers with 23 points while dishing out a game-high eight assists.
Wilmington (14-2,
9-1 OAC) scored first in the game, jumping out to a 4-0 lead just
a minute and half into the game. The Green and White would not relinquish
the lead for the remainder of the contest. The Yellow Jackets came
as close as one point twice in the period, but a 10-0 run gave the
hosts a 12-point advantage. They Yellow Jackets then worked the
deficit down to four with 7:00 left in the half before WC opened
a 14-0 run to give the Lady Quakers a double figure lead that they
would not give up for the remainder of the game, as the team went
into the locker room with a 16 point, 41-25 lead.
Baldwin-Wallace
(15-2, 8-2 OAC) cut the deficit to a dozen with 12 minutes left
before a 14-4 run put the game away for the Lady Quakers.
Woodruff led
five starters in double figure scoring with 23 points as Amy Kincer
(Englewood/Northmont) scored 17, Siobhan Zerilla 16, Tara Rausch
(Marysville/Fairbanks) 15 and Shari Stauffer (Versailles/Versailles)
11. Rausch pulled down a game-leading 12 rebounds while Zerilla
recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds and Stauffer missed a
double-double by a single rebound, pulling down nine in the game.
Woodruff dished out eight assists in the game while Stauffer gave
out four.
The Yellow Jackets
were led by Sarah Gordon, who scored 18 points while Holly Koepp
and Karissa Kusick each scored 10. Gordon pulled down a team-leading
six rebounds while Natalie Winkelfoos and Kusick each dished out
five assists.
The next game
for the Lady Quakers is set for Wednesday, January 29 when the Lady
Quakers play host to the Lady Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University
with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
