Lady Quakers move into first in the OAC with 19-point win

Four score in double figures in winning effort

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College Lady Quakers avenged an earlier loss with a 19-point, 75-56 victory over the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace College. Four Lady Quakers scored in double figures in the winning effort.

The two squads played neck-in-neck for the first 11 minutes of the game, as the Yellow Jackets held a one-point, 21-20 lead with 8:43 to play in the game. From there, the Lady Quakers opened a 10-0 run over the next two minutes, out-scoring the Yellow Jackets 21-7 over the half’s final nine minutes.

Baldwin-Wallace cut the deficit to nine with 17:24 to play in the game, before the hosts opened a 15-2 run, increasing their lead to 22, cruising the rest of the way in the 19-point win.

Senior Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) led the way with 16 points while Courtney Balser (Pleasant Plain/Little Miami) scored 14 and Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) scored 13. Katie Streck (Dayton/Carroll) added 11 points for the Lady Quakers in the 19-point win. Zerilla was a rebound shy of her 10th double double of the season with nine boards, as the Green and White out-rebounded the Yellow Jackets 42-33. Hood dished out seven assists to lead the team.

Baldwin-Wallace was led by Steffani Jaworski who scored a game-high 18 points, as no other Yellow Jacket reached double figures in the scoring column. Jessica Latimer pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds while Ashley Westenbarger dished out a team-high four assists.

With the win, the Lady Quakers improve to 13-3 on the year and 8-1 in the OAC while Baldwin-Wallace falls to second in the OAC with an 8-2 league record and a 12-5 overall record.

The Lady Quakers tip off three times in the next week, Monday at Ohio Northern, Wednesday at Muskingum before hosting Mount Union on the 29th.
