Early start paces Lady Quakers to 12-point victory

BEXLEY, OH (January 22, 2003) The Lady Quakers of Wilmington College scored the gamešs first ten points and never looked back in a 12-point victory against the Crusaders of Capital University. The win was the first against Capital in Bexley since Wilmington has joined the Ohio Athletic Conference. Leading the way for the team was Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East Clinton) who scored 20 points while dishing out a season-high 11 assists.

Wilmington (13-2, 8-1 OAC) jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the first three minutes of the game, and never trailed the rest of the way. The first half lead grew to as many as 18 with 10 minutes to go in the period before the Crusaders began to chip away at the deficit. Capital was able to cut the Lady Quaker lead to nine at 41-32 going into intermission.

Capital (4-10, 3-6 OAC) cut the deficit to seven just 20 seconds into the second stanza with a jumper, but that would be as close as Capital would come, as the Lady Quakers led by as many as 17 in the second half, and ended the game up by 12 at 78-66.

Woodruff led three double-doubles for the Quakers with 20 points and 11 assists. Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) and Shari Stauffer (Versailles/Versailles) each scored 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the victory. Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) scored 14 as Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) chipped in with 13 in the victory.

Capital was led by Danielle Meyer and Emily Maier who each scored 14 as Sara Heitkamp chipped in with 13. Mara Boyer pulled down a team-high seven rebounds while Heitkamp grabbed seven steals in the loss.

The Quakers look to avenge one of their two previous losses on Saturday, when the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace College come into Fred Raizk Arena for the battle for first place in the OAC. Tip-off for the game is set for 3:00 p.m.
