Quaker
fall victim to comeback, triple double, in three-point loss

Press Release) Wilmington, OH (January 21, 2004) The Wilmington
College Lady Quaker basketball team blew a 23-point second half
lead, as Capital used a 37-11 run over the final ten minutes of
the game to claim first place in the OAC.
Amy
Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) led the way for the Green and White
with 20 points while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) and Tara
Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) each scored 16.
The
Lady Quakers and Crusaders battled back and forth in the first half,
until the Lady Quakers used a 14-4 run to take a ten point lead
that was cut to nine by the break, as the Green and White went into
the locker room with a 39-30 lead.
The
Lady Quakers opened the second half with a 21-7 run, taking a 23-point
lead with 10:13 to play in the game, before the Crusaders started
their comeback, using an 18-0 run to cut the deficit to five with
6:51 to play. The visitors from Columbus kept their foot on the
gas pedal, and eventually took their first lead of the second half
with 1:27 to play in the game. Capital hit all four of their free
throws and a jump shot in the last minute and a half, as the Crusaders
finished their dramatic comeback with a three-point win.
Leading the way for the Lady Quakers was Kincer, who led the way
with her 20 points, while Rausch and Zerilla each scored 16. Emily
Cummins scored nine off of the bench for the Lady Quakers, while
Zerilla recorded a double-double with 16 rebounds.
Capital
was led by defending OAC Player of the Week Sara Heitkamp, who recorded
a triple-double, with 25 points, 14 rebounds and 11 steals. Kati
Todd added 17 points for the Crusaders while dishing out a team-best
four assists.
With
the loss the Lady Quakers fall to 11-4 overall and 7-2 in the OAC
while Capital improves to 12-4 overall and 8-1 in the OAC, taking
sole possession of first place in the league with the win.
The
next game for the Lady Quakers is on Saturday, January 24 when the
team travels north to Berea, Ohio to face off against the Yellow
Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace College with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
