Lady Quakers win eighth straight in total team effort

Wilmington, OH (January 18, 2003) ­ The Lady Quakers of Wilmington College held Marietta College scoreless for the first 6:33 of the second half. They did not give up a field goal until 10:21 left in the period, as the Green and White opened up a 35-point lead in the period en route to a 79-42 victory.

Wilmington (12-2, 7-1 OAC) scored the first four points in the game, and took a lead that they would not give up for the remainder of the game. The Pioneers kept the game close, not letting the Lady Quaker lead get to double digits until 3:29 left in the first half when the Green and White erupted with a 13-0 run to give the hosts an 18-point lead. Marietta fought back, cutting the deficit to 16 going into the locker room.

Marietta (7-7, 2-6 OAC) was unable to score in the first 6:33 of the second half as the Lady Quakers started the period on a 17-0 run to put the game away. All 18 players that dressed for the Green and White saw action, with 15 scoring in the game.

Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) led the team with 13 points while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) scored 12. Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East Clinton) scored eight as Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) and Jaime Kautz (Blanchester/Blanchester) chipped in with seven. Zerilla pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Lady Quakers while Rausch grabbed eight and Shari Stauffer (Versailles/Versailles) seven. Woodruff dished out a game-high five assists as the Lady Quakers amassed 24 assists in the game.

Marietta was led by Beth Bakos who scored 10 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

The next game for the Green and White is set for Wednesday, January 22 when the team travels to the Capital Center to face off against perennial OAC powerhouse Capital University with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
