Quakers survive scrappy Marietta squad

Press Release) Marietta, OH (January 17, 2004) -- The Wilmington
College Lady Quaker basketball team survived a scrappy Marietta
squad 79-57 in OAC action on Saturday afternoon.
Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) led the way for the team with
21 points while Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) scored 17 for the
Green and White.
The
visiting Lady Quakers fell behind 6-2 in the first three minutes
and trailed by as many as five in the game. Marietta was up by two,
25-22 with 5:49 left in the first half before the Green and White
opened a 10-0 run, giving the Lady Quakers a lead that they would
not relinquish for the remainder of the game. The Lady Quakers kept
their foot on the gas pedal for the rest of the half, and increased
their lead to 11 going into halftime.
The
Lady Quakers kept up the fast pace they ended the first half with,
and increased the lead to 27 with 7:37 left in the game, and cruised
to the 22-point victory.
Rausch
led all scorers with 21 points while Kincer added 17 for the visitors.
Kelly Peters (Spencerville/Spencerville) tied a career-high with
her nine points, while pulling down a game-high and career-high
nine rebounds in the win.
Marietta
was led by Amanda Baum who scored 11 while Katie Moriarty added
nine in the losing effort.
With
the win the Lady Quakers improve to 11-3 overall and 7-1 in league
play, while Marietta falls to 6-8 and 1-7 in OAC action.
The
next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, January 21 when
the team plays host to Co-OAC leader Capital University with tip-off
set for 7:30 p.m.
