Lady Quakers pick up 11th win of season
Four Lady Quakers score in double figures in 10-point win

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The
Wilmington College Lady Quaker basketball team picked up their
11th win of the season
with a 73-63 victory
over the Purple Raiders of Mount Union College on Saturday afternoon.
Four Lady Quakers reached double figures in the scoring column
to pace the Green and White.
The two teams battled back and forth for the first 12 minutes
of the game, and held a one-point, 24-23 lead before the Lady Quakers
opened a 13-0 run to take a 12-point, 36-24 lead.
The second-half lead stayed in double figures for the majority
of the second half, before the Purple Raiders cut the Lady Quaker
led to six with 31 seconds to play in the game before the visiting
Lady Quakers ended the game on a 4-0 run, giving the game its 10-point
final margin.
Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) led the way for the Lady Quakers
with 15 points and 14 rebounds, nine of which were offensive, while
Courtney Balser (Pleasant Plain/Little Miami) scored 12 and Katie
Streck (Dayton/Carroll) and Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley)
added 11 and 10 respectively. Balser and Anne Haky (North Olmsted/North
Olmsted) led the team with two assists each, as Balser added seven
rebounds as the Lady Quakers out-rebounded the Purple Raiders 54-31
in the game.
Mount Union was led by Lauren Friedrich, who scored 18 points
while Kyla Hogan scored 15 and Tana Keller 13. The Lady Quaker
defense held leading scorer Ashley Bourdeau to 0 points on 0-7
shooting in the game.
With the win, the Lady Quakers improve to 11-3 on the season and
6-1 in the OAC, while holding sole possession of second place in
the league. Mount Union falls to 3-12 on the season and 0-8 in
league action.
The next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, January
19, when the team plays host to OAC rival Capital University with
tip-off set for 7:30 p.m. For the game, you can bring a canned
good or school supplies as a form of entry fee, with the supplies
and food going to support the victims of the recent tsunami in
South Asia.
