Quakers win fourth straight

Cummins' hot hand helps team to 13-point win

(WC Press Release) Westerville, OH (January 14, 2004) -- The Wilmington
College used strong shooting from Emily Cummins (Springfield/Northwestern)
off of the bench, as the team defeated the Cardinals of Otterbein
College 82-69 on Wednesday evening.
Cummins
scored a team-best 18 points on 4-of-5 shooting from three-point
range for the team, while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mery) recorded
a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Otterbein
scored first in the contest, and opened a six-point lead with 16:50
to play in the game, which would be the largest lead for the hosts.
The Lady Quakers then went on a 9-0 run to take a four-point lead,
and never trailed again the rest of the way. The first half lead
would grow to as many as ten on two occasions, as the Lady Quakers
went into the locker room with an eight point advantage.
In the second half the Lady Quaker lead dwindled to as few as five
with 7:44 to play in the game, but a 7-0 run brought the lead to
double digits, as the team cruised to the 13-point win.
Cummins
led the squad with 18 points while Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont)
scored 17 and Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) and Zerilla scored
14 and 12 points each. Brittney Morris (Hammersville/Bethel-Tate)
chipped in nine points off of the bench for the visitors. Zerilla
pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, as the Green and White out-rebounded
their opponents 42-33 in the contest. Kincer and freshman point
guard Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) each dished out five assists,
while Rausch had two blocked shots and three steals.
Otterbein
was led by Diana Esterkamp, who scored a game-high 20 points while
Abbey Perez scored a dozen in the loss.
With
the win the Lady Quakers improve to 10-3 on the season and 6-1 in
league play while Otterbein falls to 11-3 and 4-3 in OAC action.
The
Lady Quakers hit the road again on Saturday, as the team travels
to Marietta, Ohio to face off against the Pioneers of Marietta College
with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
