Lady Quakers hold on for two-point victory

Streck and Zerilla each reach double figures in win

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College Lady Quakers held on for a two-point, 57-55 victory over the Muskies of Muskingum College on Wednesday evening.

Katie Streck (Dayton/Carroll) and Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) scored 13 and 12 points each in the winning effort for the Lady Quakers.

Muskingum started the game strong, opening up a 10-0 run out of the gate, before the Lady Quakers responded with a 16-0 run, giving themselves a six-point lead. The Muskies kept chipping away at the six-point lead, eventually taking a three-point lead which they kept heading into the locker room.

The second half was back and forth the whole way, with the largest lead by any team being a four-point advantage that the Green and White twice owned, the final time with 4:01 to play in the game. Muskingum then went on a 4-0 run to tie the game at 55 with 1:34 to play before Zerilla hit a jumper in the paint with 1:07 in the contest, giving the hosts the deciding points in the win.

Streck scored 13 points for the Lady Quakers while Zerilla added 12, while Kelly Peters (Spencerville/Spencerville) chipped in eight in the win. Zerilla pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, as the Lady Quakers out-rebounded the Muskies by 10, 50-40. Sam Hood (Lockbourne/Teays Valley) dished out seven assists while Streck blocked a game-high two shots.

Muskingum had a balanced attack, led by Kortney Kaser’s 12 points while Leah Miller and Sarah Duncan each added eight.

With the win, the Lady Quakers improve to 10-3 on the year and 5-1 in the OAC, while Muskingum falls to 2-11 and 1-6 in league play.

The next game for the Lady Quakers is on January 15, when the team travels to Alliance, Ohio to face off against the Purple Raiders of Mount Union College with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
