Lady Quakers use second half run to put away Blue Streaks

Wilmington, OH (January 4, 2003) The Lady Quakers of Wilmington College opened the second half with a 12-0 run to give the hosts a 33-point lead in the Lady Quakers' 96-73 conference victory. Tara Rausch (Marysville/Fairbanks) led all scorers with 27 points while Siobhan Zerilla (Cincinnati/Mercy) recorded a double double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Wilmington (8-2, 3-1 OAC), who never trailed in the contest, opened a 23-9 lead halfway through the first half and never looked back for the remainder of the half, ending the period up by 21 at 48-27.

In the second half the Green and White held visiting John Carroll (5-3, 3-1 OAC) scoreless for the first three minutes of the period, opening up a 33-point advantage. The Blue Streaks cut the deficit to 20 late in the game, and ended the game trailing by 23 at 96-73.

Rausch scored a game-high 27 points for the Green and White while Megan Woodruff (New Vienna/East Clinton) scored 16, Amy Kincer (Englewood/Northmont) 12 and Zerilla pitched in with 10. Zerilla had a game leading 12 rebounds while Rausch pulled down eight loose balls as the team out-rebounded their opponent by 20 (43-to-23) in the contest.

John Carroll was led by Meagan Heller, who scored 16 points off of the bench. Shayla Bell also scored in double figures for the Blue Streaks as Julie Duffy pitched in with eight. John Carroll senior and leading scorer on the season Katie Benjamin scored just one point in the contest, but with that one point eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau on her career, one of just three active OAC players to accomplish that feat.

The next game for the Green and White is set for Wednesday, January 8 when the team travels to Muskingum to face off against the Lady Muskies in an OAC contest with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
