Peters named All-America

DIII News calls WC junior one of nation's best

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Wilmington College junior post Kelly Peters has been named All-America Honorable Mention by Women's DIII News, the monthly newsletter of Division III women's basketball.

The All-American honor comes a week after Peters was named to the D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region Second Team.

Peters (Spencerville), who led the Lady Quakers in scoring (16.1) and rebounding (8.4) this season, also was named All-Ohio Athletic Conference First Team and was an Academic All-OAC selection.

"Kelly played consistently well for us in every game this season," WC head coach Jerry Scheve said. "She really established herself as a force in both the OAC and the region. It's very nice to see her get this national recognition, of which she is very deserving. It's also very nice that we're going to have her for another season."

Peters' recognition marks the fourth straight season a Lady Quaker has received All-American honors. Siobhan Zerilla (2005), Tara Rausch (2004), Megan Woodruff (2003) and Rausch (2003) preceded Peters as All-Americans.

"That is a tradition that speaks well of our team and the individuals who are our team," Scheve said. "Every year we ask our players to set high individual goals for themselves, and together we set high goals for the team. We asked Kelly to step in and step up this season and she certainly did both."

Peters was joined by three other OAC players on Women's DIII News' All-America squad. Sara Heitkamp of Capital was a first team selection, Nikki Altenweg of Baldwin-Wallace was honorable mention and Baldwin-Wallace's Amanda Mondrach was named to the all-freshman team.
