Cast Selected for Summer Theatre's 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels'

Musical Comedy to Run July 18-21

July 1, 2013

Rehearsals are well underway and reservations are being taken for Wilmington College-Community Summer Theatre’s production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels July 18 through 21 in WC’s Hugh G. Heiland Theatre.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. for the Thursday, Friday and Saturday productions and 2:30 p.m. for the Sunday matinee show.

Director Bill Kincaid Jr. said Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is written in the tradition of classic musical comedies.
“When I first saw it, I was charmed by this combination of a contemporary story (based on the 1988 film starring Steve Martin and Michael Caine) and the old-school musical theatre structure,” he said.

“The score is jazzy and fun, ranging from love ballads to comic numbers and the story is a very funny twist on an old plot device, the love triangle.”

It features two con men and the woman they intend to swindle out of $50,000.

“Anyone who is familiar with the film knows the hilarious complications,” Kincaid added. “Anyone who doesn't know it is in for a musical treat and a night of surprises.”

The cast for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels includes Lawrence Jameson portrayed by Timothy Larrick, Freddy Benson by Bryan Wallingford, Christine Colgate by Rachel Beck, Andre Thibault by Tim Brausch, Muriel by Gina Beck and Jolene by Rebekah Muchmore.

The ensemble features: Bob Brausch, Leah Brausch, Victoria Canby, Jessica Cunigan, Bethany Ellen, Dustin Evans, Ben Farmer, Claudia Fowler, Bridget Garnai, Tricia Heys, Brent Hoggatt, Abby Land, Kasiem Medley, Alexia Minton, Matt Purkey, Stephen Rupp, Tonja Ruther, Gary Smith, Caleb Taylor, Kevin Wall and Rhonda Wheasler.

In addition to Kincaid directing, Wynn Alexander and Becky Haines are handling set and lighting design, respectively, with Matt Spradlin serving as musical director and Cole Haugh as choreographer.

The Theatre Box Office, located in Boyd Cultural Arts Center, is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Reservations can be made by calling the box office at (937) 382-6661 ext. 267.
