WC Theatre to Present the Musical 'Pippin'
Senior Ely Bolitho Cast in Lead Role; Show to Run Nov. 15,16 and 17
October 25, 2012
Stephen Schwartz’s “hip, tongue-in-cheek fairy tale” Pippin will be Wilmington College Theatre’s fall presentation Nov. 15, 16 and 17, at 7:30 p.m., in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre.
Steven Haines is directing the show and, along with Timothy Larrick, providing musical direction. Lois Hock is handling the set design and Becky Haines the lighting.
Pippin is among the numerous Broadway hits by Oscar-winning composer/lyricist Schwartz that also includes Wicked, Godspell and Children of Eden. He is also behind the animated films Pocahontas, The Prince of Egypt and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Haines said the musical finds a young prince longing to discover the secret of true happiness and fulfillment.
“He sought it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power; however, ultimately, he found it in the simple pleasures of home and family,” he said.
The story that captivated Broadway audiences “continues to appeal” to audiences everywhere and has become a staple on college and community stages, he added, noting Pippin features an “energetic, pop-influenced score.”
Ely Bolitho is cast as Pippin with Megan McDonough as Fastrada, Bekah Muchmore as Berthe, Morgan Smith as Catherine, Zach Hughes as Charlemange, Trae Walterhouse as Lewis and Joey Schoettelkotte as Theo.
Those featured as tricksters are Rachel Beck, Susan Dicken, Abigael Knapp, Marissa Rogers and Quatez Scott while company members are Gigi Anderson, Victoria Canby, Phoebe Davis, Chari Eyler, Karen Oehler, Leah Phillips, Vicki Wilson, Marcus Benson, Nick Guehring, Kevin Wall and Louis Williams.
Reservations can be made by contacting the Theatre Box Office, which is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., at (937) 382-6661 ext. 267.
