Sigs Named 2008 Fraternity of the Year at Greek Awards Night

Also Gain Service, Philanthropy and Academic Recognition

Sigma Zeta was named "Fraternity of the Year" for the third time in the past four years April 15 at Wilmington College's annual Greek Awards Night.

That honor highlighted an evening in which the fraternity also was recognized for Service, Philanthropy and Scholarship.

Sigma Zeta took home awards for: "Greek Excellence in New Membership" by virtue of recruitng 10 new actives this year; "Greek Excellence in Service" as a result of averaging more than 15 hours of community service per member; "Greek Excellence in Philanthropy" because it raised more than $25 per member for charities and non-profit organizations; and "Greek Excellence in Scholarship" as a result of the fraternity maintaining a grade point average greater than the Colege's gender average.

The Sigs also won the fraternity award for "Outstanding Philanthropy." After five consecutive years of winning the Rock Challenge, which recognizes the highest perecentage of alumni from respective Greek organizations that give to the College, Sigma Zeta was runner-up to the Kappas.

On an individual basis, Vladimir Kamnyev, Mark Sedzoil, Thomas Keane and 2007 alumnus Ben Stevenson were recognized for making the Dean's List for spring 2007 and/or fall 2007.

Also, Thomas Keane, 2007-08 president of Greek Council, received the "Greek Council Service Award.
